It’s cool to be a Young Saver with your Credit Union

Lewisham Plus Credit Union operates a number of Young Saver clubs at participating local schools. These encourage primary and secondary age pupils to learn about money and develop a savings habit. This is a vital part of growing up money-wise. Young Saver accounts are different from adult accounts because:

• They are only available to people under the age of 16.
• A higher rate of interest is distributed to Young Savers, typically between 3% and 4.75%.
• Young Savers receive an attractive plastic wallet, colourful pen with their special Young Savers passbook.
• Primary age Young Savers can collect smart smiley stickers when they save.
• Savings can be withdrawn at any time but loans are not allowed. Withdrawals of more than £20 need to be countersigned by a parent or guardian.

• Young Savers become adult members of the Credit Union on the 30th September following their 16th birthday.

Any child who is a relative living in the same household as a qualifying adult member can have an account as a Young Saver. The credit union is able to accept accounts for children who attend a school in the London Borough of Lewisham or one of the following South London postcodes:

SE19  SE20  SE26  BR1  or  BR3

Complete an application form and visit one of our collection points or send your application to us by post. We need to see evidence of identity (e.g. birth certificate, medical card or student card) and address. Bring or send £2 for your one-off joining fee and at least £1 to open your savings account.
